Reading support built around the learner.

Reading isn’t one skill. It is several connected skills: hearing the sounds in words, linking sounds to letters, sounding out new words, reading fluently, spelling and understanding what was read. When one is fragile, everything built on it feels harder. Rosemary’s work starts by finding which one.

What is reading intervention?

Reading intervention is targeted teaching for children who find reading, spelling or writing harder than expected. It is more specific than homework tutoring.

It starts by finding which literacy skills are secure and which are missing, such as phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, spelling or comprehension. Then it teaches the missing skills directly and in a logical order, using an Orton-Gillingham-based, multisensory approach. Rosemary teaches one-to-one, in person in White Rock and South Surrey, BC, and online.

01

Reading Assessment & Clarity

Find out why reading is hard and what to work on next.

What it is
Before teaching anything, Rosemary looks closely at how your child reads and writes. She listens to them read, reviews a writing sample and notices what happens when they meet an unfamiliar word. The goal is to see what is secure, what is emerging and what is missing.
Who it may help
  • Children who work hard at reading but still fall behind
  • Families told to “keep practising” without knowing what to practise
  • Parents who suspect dyslexia and want to know which skills to work on first
What Rosemary may work on
  • Phonological awareness
  • Letter–sound knowledge
  • Decoding strategies
  • Reading fluency
  • Spelling patterns
  • Comprehension
What you gain
A plain-language explanation of your child’s reading, and the order in which to teach the missing skills.

02

Reading & Dyslexia Intervention

Build the missing reading skills with structured, individualized teaching.

What it is
One-to-one lessons that teach reading skills directly and in a logical order. Rosemary’s teaching is grounded in Orton-Gillingham: explicit, structured and multisensory, so children see, hear, say and write the patterns they are learning. Each lesson builds on what your child has secured and returns to what still needs practice.
Who it may help
  • Children with dyslexia or signs of dyslexia
  • Early readers who need a stronger foundation
  • Intermediate readers whose reading has stalled, or who rely on guessing
What Rosemary may work on
  • Phonological and phonemic awareness
  • Phonics and decoding
  • Syllable patterns and longer words
  • Fluency and word recognition
  • High-frequency words
  • Reading comprehension
What you gain
Lessons aimed at the skills that will make the biggest difference next, and regular updates on how they are developing.

03

Writing & Spelling Support

Make spelling and writing more systematic and less mysterious.

What it is
Spelling asks a child to hear every sound in a word and know how to write it. Rosemary teaches the sound–letter connections, patterns and rules behind English spelling, so children have a strategy rather than a list to memorize. Writing support starts with building a complete sentence and moves toward longer pieces of writing.
Who it may help
  • Children whose spelling words don’t stick
  • Students who avoid writing, or find it hard to get ideas onto paper
  • Readers who decode well but spell inconsistently
What Rosemary may work on
  • Sound–letter mapping
  • Spelling patterns and rules
  • Syllables
  • Multisensory spelling practice
  • Sentence building
  • Written expression
What you gain
Spelling that follows a logic your child can learn, and writing that feels less overwhelming.

04

Parent Coaching

Know what to reinforce between sessions instead of guessing.

What it is
Rosemary helps you understand what your child is learning, why it matters and how to support it at home. You learn simple techniques that match what happens in lessons, so time at home is focused rather than random, and home doesn’t have to become another classroom.
Who it may help
  • Parents who want to help but aren’t sure how
  • Homeschooling families teaching reading themselves
  • Families who want home practice to match lessons
What Rosemary may work on
  • Your child’s current goals
  • Short, focused home routines
  • Techniques for sounds and spelling
  • Reading together without battles
  • Understanding progress
What you gain
Confidence that the time you spend helping at home is time well spent.
