When reading still feels hard
You know your child is trying.
More practice isn’t always the answer. A child can work hard every day while one specific skill is still fragile or missing. The first step is finding where reading breaks down. Then Rosemary teaches that skill.
What parents often notice
- They guess at words instead of sounding them out.
- Reading is slow, and every page takes real effort.
- Spelling words learned on Friday are gone by Monday.
- Sound patterns don’t seem to stick.
- They read the words but can’t tell you what happened.
- They avoid reading, or say they’re just bad at it.
None of these mean something is wrong with your child. They are clues about which skills need attention.
The approach
Every struggle tells us something.
A guessed word or a spelling that changes from day to day is information. Rosemary uses it to see what your child can already do, what is almost there and what still needs to be taught directly.
How a reading assessment worksA reading sample
The sentence
The ship sailed past the rocky shore.
What the child read aloud
The sip (read for “ship”, clue 1) sailed pass (read for “past”, clue 2) the rock (read for “rocky”, clue 3) shore.
ship read as “sip”
‘sh’ (two letters, one sound) isn’t secure yet.
past read as “pass”
The ending ‘st’ loses its last sound.
rocky read as “rock”
Word endings are being skipped.
How Rosemary works
Observe
How your child actually reads and writes.
Identify
The skills that are getting in the way.
Teach
The next skill, explicitly and in order.
Track
Progress, adjusting the plan as skills grow.
Explain
What it all means, so you can help at home.
Services
Support built around the child, not the grade level.
Reading intervention is more targeted than homework help. Rosemary works on the specific skills behind reading, spelling and writing.
How it works
A clear next step.
Tell Rosemary what you’re noticing
Send a short note or call. You don’t need the right terms or a diagnosis.
Understand what’s getting in the way
Rosemary listens to your child read and looks at a writing sample. Then she explains what she found, in plain language.
Build the next skills
One-to-one lessons in person or online, on a schedule you set together.
And at every step, you understand the plan too.
For parents
You shouldn’t have to guess what to practise at home.
Parents often leave a school meeting with one instruction: keep practising. Practising what, exactly, is less clear.
Parent coaching closes that gap, without turning home into another classroom.
- A plain-language picture of what your child is working on, and why
- Simple ways to reinforce the same skills at home
- Updates as skills develop, so progress is something you can see
Reviews
In parents’ own words.
Rosemary & Shari made it so easy to teach my daughter to read and write. Their passion for helping both parents and kids, combined with their expertise, truly sets them apart. My daughter’s confidence in reading has soared, and I’m so grateful for their support.
“I am grateful my two kids were able to work with [Shari] and Rosemary and receive extra support in reading and spelling. Confident Kids Reading has a fantastic, effective program that my kids loved. Now, seeing how my kids feel confident with school work and the considerable growth and passion for reading is exactly what we needed.”

Where Rosemary works
Close to home, or online.
Rosemary works with families in person in White Rock and South Surrey, BC. Online sessions are available when travel isn’t practical, or when your family lives farther away.

How is reading intervention different from regular tutoring?
Regular tutoring usually helps with homework or practises what is being taught in class. Reading intervention is more targeted. Rosemary looks at specific literacy skills, such as phonological awareness (hearing the separate sounds in words), decoding (sounding words out), fluency, spelling and comprehension, to find which ones are getting in the way. Then she teaches those skills directly and in order. Rosemary teaches one-to-one, in person in White Rock and South Surrey, BC, or online.
What kinds of reading difficulties can Rosemary help with?
Rosemary helps children who guess at words, read slowly and with great effort, forget sound patterns, can’t make spelling stick, or read the words without understanding them. She also works with early readers who need a strong start.
Does Rosemary work with children who have dyslexia?
Yes. Rosemary is an Orton-Gillingham certified dyslexia reading interventionist. Her lessons are structured, explicit and multisensory, an approach developed for learners with dyslexia. Your child does not need a formal diagnosis to start.
Can Rosemary diagnose dyslexia?
No. Rosemary’s work is educational: she identifies literacy skill patterns and teaches the skills a child needs. A formal diagnosis of dyslexia or another learning disability requires an assessment by a qualified professional, such as a registered psychologist. If Rosemary notices signs that a formal assessment could help, she will explain what she is seeing.
What happens before lessons begin?
It starts with a short discovery call about what you are noticing. Then Rosemary looks closely at how your child reads and writes, so she knows what is secure and what needs teaching. Lessons are planned from there, and you will know what the plan is and why.
Do parents get guidance too?
Yes. Rosemary explains what your child is working on and shows you simple ways to reinforce it at home, so practice at home supports what your child is learning in lessons.
Does Rosemary offer online sessions?
Yes. Rosemary teaches in person in White Rock and South Surrey, BC, and online. Online lessons use the same structured, multisensory approach.
How long does reading support usually take?
It depends on your child’s starting skills, their goals and how often sessions happen, so Rosemary won’t promise a timeline in advance. She tracks progress as she goes and talks with you about what she is seeing.
Start with a conversation.
Send Rosemary a note about your child, and she’ll reply by email to find a time to talk.
