Outside of teaching, Rosemary loves hiking and biking with her husband and their young-adult children.

Two children in the same grade can need completely different reading instruction.

Rosemary’s teaching starts there. She plans lessons from what a child already does well, what is almost there and what hasn’t been taught yet.

A teacher first

Rosemary has taught kindergarten and primary classrooms, the years when children learn to read. She holds a Master of Science in Elementary Education, and teaching reading has always been her passion.

A specialist in how reading works

She is an Orton-Gillingham certified dyslexia reading interventionist. Her lessons are explicit, structured and multisensory.

Early literacy, and helping children who aren’t reading yet make a start, are particular strengths.

Many kinds of learners

Rosemary has taught adult literacy, tutored one-to-one in person and online, and volunteered teaching English to refugees.

A parent’s perspective

She homeschooled her own children while living abroad. She knows what it is to be both parent and teacher, and why parents need practical guidance rather than another stack of worksheets.

Sharing what she knows

Rosemary co-founded Confident Kids Academy with Shari Jensen and created its Phonological Awareness Reading Readiness Activities. Together they have presented to parents at the Canadian Homeschool Conference:

  • 2022Fun Tools & Strategies That Engage All Readers and Writers
  • 2023Your Child Is Amazing! Use Your Child’s Strengths to Open Up Learning Pathways
  • 2024Reading Foundations: Setting Your Preschooler Up for Success

She has also written for parents about phonological awareness, spelling patterns and helping struggling readers.
